Dave Deeks: The devil came to Jesus
Matthew 4 v 1-11
The devil came to Jesus in the wilderness
He knew that He was hungry, so this is what he said
"Just use your power to turn these stones to bread"
But Jesus answered Satan "You know the scripture says
Man cannot live on bread alone, for he must live instead
On every word that the Holy God has said
So leave me Satan, I will not be tempted"
The devil then took Jesus to the temple high
"If you are the Son of God you need not be alarmed,
Jump down to prove that you're safe in angels' arms"
But Jesus answered Satan "You know the scriptures well
You study them by day and night in your home in hell
It is forbidden to test the Lord your God
So leave me Satan, don't tempt the Lord your God"
Once again the devil took Him to a mountain high
And showed Him all the world in just the twinkling of an eye
"All this I'll give you if you'll only worship me"
But Jesus answered Satan "Be gone from me, be gone
The Scripture says you'll worship God and worship Him alone"
Then Satan left Him, he left Him on His own
When Jesus told him to straightaway be gone
Now when the devil tempts you he'll do it when we're weak
Whether it's by day, or even when you are asleep
He's out to get you, he's clever, he's a sneak
So just remember Jesus, remember what He said
Send the devil on his way and live your life instead
By every word that the Son of God has said
And tell the devil you will not be tempted
